Wholesale Rigid Boxes: 7 Questions Export Buyers Should Ask Their Manufacturer

Rigid boxes sell luxury before the product is even touched, which is why disappointing ones are so costly. If you are sourcing rigid boxes wholesale, these seven questions will tell you quickly whether a manufacturer knows the craft. 1. What greyboard density do you use?

The board is the skeleton. Thin board flexes and feels cheap; quality rigid boxes typically use 2 to 3 mm greyboard depending on box size. Ask for the spec in millimetres, not adjectives.

2. How are corners finished?

Corners reveal workmanship. Ask whether corners are taped, stayed or wrapped-over, and request close-up photos of a finished corner before committing.

3. What wrap and lamination options exist?

The printed art paper wrapping the board takes the branding, and its lamination decides the feel: matte for understated luxury, gloss for vibrancy, soft-touch for that velvet cosmetic feel. Foil stamping and spot UV add highlights.

4. Can you fit magnets, ribbons and inserts?

Collapsible magnetic boxes, ribbon-pull drawers, die-cut foam or board inserts, these mechanics must be engineered, not improvised. Ask what closure styles the factory builds routinely.

5. How do you sample?

A factory confident in its work will produce a physical sample or send detailed photos and video of your approved design before the full run.

6. How are boxes packed for export freight?

Rigid boxes travel assembled (bulkier, arrive ready) or collapsible (flat, cheaper freight). Either way they need protective master cartons sized for palletising. Ask how many units per carton and the carton dimensions, your freight quote depends on it.

7. What are the real minimums?
